So every year people make resolutions….and most can’t keep many if any of them…at least I can’t…I’ll admit it.
But the other day while watching TV, and surfing the web, and answering emails…you get the picture….I was more into my iPad than the television, but I was at least listening to it….and normally I only watch taped/DVR’d television so I skip the commercials…Except this time…This time Toyota did it! They WOW’d me….I paused it…backed it up and listened, not once, not twice, but three times! Ok, so maybe that was a little much, but I did. I wanted to hear those words. I needed to hear those words.
Let’s go places. Not just the ones you can find on a map, but the ones you can find in your heart. Let’s go beyond everything we know and embrace everything we don’t. And once we’ve reached our destination, let’s keep going. Because inspiration doesn’t favor those who sit still. It dances with the daring. And rewards the courageous with ideas that excite, challenge, even inspire. Ideas that take you places you never imagined. Ideas big enough and powerful enough to make the heart skip a beat. And in some cases, maybe two. Let’s go places!
I have to say it made me decide I want to Go Places! Both professionally and personally. I want to grow as an artist and as a person. And I wouldn’t mind going to some new places on a map, as well.
Does it make you feel the same way? I’d love for you to share your thoughts.
I can’t believe it’s been so long. I have been a bad, bad blogger. I have to say though that I have been busy this season, so that’s a good thing. I have so many things to share. Weddings have been gorgeous and clients have been out of this world wonderful! I promise over the next few weeks to get things rolling on some great things to share, especially images.
Here’s a little teaser of things to come…
To my fans, please forgive me. I promise to do better. Very Soon!!
To my clients, thank you SO much for being so awesome!
Sometimes things happen that are out of the blue, but they touch you so deeply that you can’t ignore them. That’s the case with South Carolina Heart Gallery. Kids in need have always held a special place in my heart. It goes back to my wonderful parents teaching me to care for the less fortunate and those in need. So when a colleague of mine told me about SCHG, I was on board immediately. I asked Program Assistant, Mary Smyrl to help me explain just what SCHG is and it’s purpose:
South Carolina Heart Gallery uses the power of photography to help find adoptive homes for children lingering in foster care. Children in foster care who are legally free and waiting for adoption are referred by DSS. Local photographers donate their services to provide beautiful black and white portraits of the children, reflecting each child’s unique spirit and personality. The portraits are displayed in public venues around the state and on the Heart Gallery website at http://www.scheartgallery.org . Each child also receives an small album with an assortment of the photos taken of them.
Begun in New Mexico in 2001, Heart Gallery is now a national program. South Carolina Heart Gallery was founded in 2005 by Millie Qualls, Program Coordinator, and is a special partnership between the Children’s Foster Care Review Board and the SC Department of Social Services (DSS).
Please take the time to check out their website or Facebook page. Getting the word out there will go a long way in finding a child a home.
Some of you know that I am part of an awesome group of photographers called the Portrait Photography Group. We are from all skill levels from casual photography for fun to professional portrait, wedding or fashion photography. I love this group and helping others realize their dreams. Most of our meetings take place locally and include learning opportunities and many genres of photography opportunities. A couple of times a year we try to find a unique destination for ‘shoot-outs’ to give everyone a chance to have ample opportunities to get some great photos and socialize with each other.
We always have a great time! Here’s an image I got of a couple that just happened to show up at just the right time:
One of our group members got really excited when this biker went roaring down the street. She mentioned enjoying the wind in her hair and how lucky the woman was to have those ‘guns’ to hold on to. 😀 We had a great time with these two. Thanks Brittany and Todd for hanging out with us for a while.
THE END. 😀
Carolina Girls are the best in the world, Carolina Girls…..ok, a little lame I know, but it just came to mind. These girls are roommates at Charleston Southern University and one of them is my precious little daughter. I was tickled to death to get to photograph this time in her life. I am so proud of her and love to watch her grow into the woman that she is becoming.
Great memories in the making!
Talk about an amazing couple! Leigh Anne and John are the absolute sweetest couple. They were married a year ago and the honeymoon isn’t over yet! It is so great to see couples have so much fun together and love each other as much as these two. I was so excited when she called me to do a session. Leigh Anne and I have been friends for over 20 years and when she moved to Asheville last year, I thought it would kill me. The great thing is when we do get to see each other, we pick up wherever we left off each last conversation. You gotta love a friendship like that.
Love you Leigh Anne and John!
One of my photographer friends called me up with this idea to replicate a scene from the movie American Beauty, and I jumped on it! We brainstormed for a while, got other photographers to help brainstorm and even picked hubby’s brain for technical support. Just three short days later, we set up and tested theory and equipment. (It was hard to sleep the night before from excitement!)
The next day ran so smoothly, it was almost surreal. And three beautiful models each graced the scene with timeless beauty. All from different stages of life, to show that beauty comes in many different forms, all to be appreciated.
Here’s my results..
These girls are so gorgeous! It was great to see them let go, have a little fun and feel as beautiful as they are.
